Tom and Kelley

Dear Birthmother,
Hello! We are Tom and Kelley, and we are very grateful that you are taking the time to read about our family. Though we do not yet know you or your situation, we greatly respect your strength and courage. We hope that this letter gives you some insight into our lives and the life we could provide for your child; namely, devoted parents, a loving big sister, and a future filled with opportunity.

Our family consists of the two of us and our daughter Nora. We also have a very sweet dog named Charm, whom Nora refers to as her “furry little sister”. We are a close family and we truly love spending time together. For reasons the doctors cannot explain, we are not able to conceive a second baby. While the last few years have been a trying time for us, we are now confident that adoption is the route we are meant to follow. We are very excited to complete our family through this amazing journey!

Our Love Story

We met in college. We fell in love quickly and have been together ever since! We are best friends and we continue to challenge and support each other. Together we enjoy having friends over for dinner, taking long walks, and exploring new restaurants. We also love traveling and have been to some incredible places, our favorite so far being Italy. One of our best travel memories was getting lost together in Venice searching for St. Mark’s Square. We were laughing and running and going in circles! Finally, right at dusk, we turned down a random path that led right to it. It was truly breathtaking! We very much look forward to traveling near and far with our children in the future.

Nora

In 2003, we were blessed with our daughter Nora. Nora is a fun-loving, little girl with great passion for life. She amazes us every day! We love watching her grow and learn new things. She loves school and says she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She also loves playing her guitar, swimming, climbing trees, and playing with her friends. Nora is very much looking forward to being a big sister. Our experience raising Nora has taught us a lot, and we are so ready to welcome another child into our family.

Fun Family Time!
We are an active family. We love taking bike rides, going on nature hikes, going out for breakfast on the weekends, and having game nights. We regularly visit our local zoo, aquarium, and museums for children. We also love taking fun family trips. We typically go to the beach for a week every summer. Last summer we went to New York to see our first Broadway show! While we love being active, we also cherish our down time together. One of our favorite parts of the day is Nora’s bedtime, when we read stories together. We are all excited for this routine to continue with our new baby as well.

Meet Tom

(by Tom) I am the 5th of eight children, with four brothers and three sisters. I would stay outside all day with my friends, and family camping trips were a highlight of our summers. My mother insisted that I took piano lessons, but I could never remember to practice. Basketball however, did become a passion for me and I played throughout high school and into college. I still enjoy basketball today and am thrilled that Nora has started to show some interest as well.

I love being silly with Nora and making her laugh. She loves when I dance and sing around the house with her. I also love running, hiking, and canoeing. We have 4 nieces and 7 nephews on my side of the family, with my siblings living all up and down the east coast. It’s always fun when we all get together. Nora particularly enjoys visiting her cousins in N.C., where during a recent visit she was thrilled to hold baby chicks!

(by Kelley) Tom is an amazing husband and father. He is generous, creative, funny and supportive. He has a great ability to keep the chaos of life in its proper perspective. He pushes me to be my best, and he is my comfort when things don’t go as planned. His best trait is his sense of humor – we have fun together and we laugh every day! I especially love when he breaks into random dancing with Nora, and she loves it too! Tom is also very patient, like when Nora’s teaching him the clapping routine for the song “Miss Mary Mack” and then she wants to practice it for hours! He not only goes along with it, but he has a blast in the process. I’m so blessed to have Tom as my life partner.

Meet Kelley

(by Kelley) I am the oldest of three children, with a younger brother and sister. I grew up outside of a small town in Ohio, surrounded by my grandparents’ farmland. My childhood was filled with playing outside on bikes, in trees, and on a large jungle gym that my dad concocted for us. I babysat when I was old enough, and I always dreamed of having a family of my own. Now I love cooking and spending time with my family and friends. I also love reading and staying active by taking walks, playing tennis and practicing yoga. Some of my favorite times with Nora are when she wants to cook with me, when she tells me about her day at bedtime, and when we’re walking somewhere together and she takes a hold of my hand. During trips to visit my family, Nora especially loves camping out in tents and driving her little John Deere tractor around. She also is very excited to have a brand new cousin, born just this summer!

(by Tom) You will not find anyone who cares more and will do more for her family and friends than Kelley. She is always thinking of others before herself, and she is always there with a helping hand or just to talk, listen and laugh. Whether it’s a card for a friend who’s down, a meal for a neighbor with a new baby, or an encouraging note slipped into Nora’s lunchbox, she is always there for those she loves.

When I met Kelley, we were both very young. Even when we were young we knew we both wanted the same things in life, and together we have grown and built the life we always dreamed of. We compliment each other's strengths and have learned to balance and support the other when it's most important.

Nora and I are very thankful for Kelley’s caring and nurturing spirit. But what we appreciate the most is her ability to be a genuine friend who wants the best for us. This makes her not only a great person, but an incredible wife and mother.

Our Work
Tom –My background is in architecture and design and I currently work for a major sports retailer. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to build an amazing team that designs and builds retail stores all over the world. I enjoy being a leader, and I appreciate that my creativity is embraced by my employer.

I am especially grateful for a job that challenges me every day and provides me with the balance and flexibility to get away when I need to. It’s a great feeling to be able to be one of the Dads that show up at his child’s special events.

Kelley - I have always had a passion to work with children. After college, I took a job in a residential children’s home for kids with behavioral difficulties. That experience encouraged me to become a school psychologist so I could continue working with kids that need extra help. I currently work part time as a learning specialist in an all-girls private high school. While I love my work, I am very much looking forward to staying home full time once our baby arrives.

Our Home

We live in a wonderful family-friendly community, near parks, hiking trails, and playgrounds. There are planned events for children in our neighborhood year-round, such as breakfasts with Santa and Easter egg hunts. The school district where we live is top-rated, and Nora attends a brand new “green” school. We also belong to a thriving church community, which is important to us for reinforcing the values of faith, kindness, and charity in our children.

Our Promise

We promise that your child will grow up in a home filled with lots of love and laughter. In addition, we promise…

…bedtime stories and many snuggles
…a listening ear and encouragement
…to nurture his or her individual interests and talents
…to provide many opportunities for travel and adventure, and
…to teach him or her respect for self, others, and the environment.

We pray that you can find comfort in your heart as you choose the best family for your baby. Should you choose us, your child will know about the adoption journey we traveled with you and of your brave and loving decision you made for him or her. The adoption of a baby will fulfill our dream of completing our family, and for this we will be forever grateful.

With Warmest Regards,

Kelley, Tom and Nora
