Stan and Lisa
Dear Birthmother,
Hello! We are Stan and Lisa. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter! Although we can never truly understand how you are feeling right now, please know that we have tremendous respect for the brave and difficult choice you are facing in considering adoption for your baby. We would love to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit more about us. We are excited to share a lifetime of love with a child and are honored to have you read our story.
We met on a blind date and right away we knew how special we would be special to each other. We had a lot in common and shared a strong sense of family and core values. After dating for three years, we got married in a small, beautiful wedding on Cape Cod, Massachusetts with family and close friends there to celebrate our marriage.
Immediately after our wedding, we began to think about starting a family. We wanted more than anything to be parents. Since Stan’s sister, had recently adopted two little girls from Guatemala, and our friends adopted their daughter from China, we were already familiar with the idea of building a family through adoption and have seen firsthand how adoption is a wonderful way to build a family. Both of these families are so filled with love are we are so overwhelmed at the thought that it could someday be us that has the joy of adopting a little one! When it became clear that having a child the usual way was not an option for us, we immediately turned to adoption and have never looked back!

Our Lives Together
Now we’d like to give you glimpse into our everyday lives. We’ve been married for almost five years and our relationship is very loving and strong. We live in a small city approximately twenty miles outside of Boston, Massachusetts. It’s a great place to live and raise a family. We are close to downtown Boston, which has a lot of museums, parks, history, The New England Aquarium, Fenway Park and a beautiful waterfront. We are also close to the beaches of Cape Cod, and the mountains of New Hampshire. There is lots to do in all 4 of the beautiful seasons.
We both grew up in Massachusetts and we live in the house across the street from where Stan grew up. Stan’s father still lives there and we see him almost every day. In the summer he has a wonderful vegetable garden filled with tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. It’s nice having him across the street because sometimes Stan’s father will cook dinner (stuffed peppers are his specialty) and we’ll go over there and eat, and then sometimes we’ll cook and he’ll come over and eat with us.
Stan’s sister and her family live approximately two miles away from us. We’re so thrilled they we all live so close by so we can spend time together often. Traveling to see each for Thanksgiving dinner is never a problem!
Lisa’s family also live close by. Lisa’s mother, sister and oldest brother live on Cape Cod. Lisa’s other brother and his family live about 20 miles away. They have two daughters, age 8 and 4, and we see them frequently. Sometimes they spend the whole weekend at “Uncle Stan and Auntie Lisa’s” house. We’ll take them out to eat and bring them to our beautiful local park to feed the ducks. We always have such a great time and they always want to come back!
We also have a small cottage on the beach on Cape Cod. This is where we spend a lot of time in the summer. Needless to say, our friends and family also spend a great deal of time here too. We love having barbeques and spending time kayaking and swimming here.
We really enjoy travelling together and have visited places such as Paris, Charleston, Virginia, Savannah, Florida, Las Vegas, Arizona and have been all over the Caribbean. Our dream is to go to Greece together, as a few members of Stan’s family still live in a small village there. Of course, the next trip on our wish list is our trip to finally meet your baby!
Stan really enjoys fishing. In the summer, he gets up very early to go fishing and then he’s usually home before I’m even up for breakfast. When he catches fish, he’ll usually barbeque it that night so we can have fresh fish for dinner. He’ll also give some away to his family.
Stan leads a very active lifestyle. He is an avid runner and in 2005 he ran a marathon on Cape Cod. He’s devoted to running and being healthy. His father also picked up the “running bug” and they will run together often.
Lisa also loves to be active, but biking and walking are more her speed. She’s done a few charity walks, and most recently, she walked 13 miles for the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Lisa’s real passion is cooking and has a library of cookbooks. She loves to make healthy versions of comfort foods, like cauliflower mashed potatoes and pumpkin chocolate brownies. For the past three years, Lisa has taken on cooking Thanksgiving dinner for Stan’s family. Everyone in the family seems to especially love the baked sweet potato casserole with toasted pecans.
Stan is an attorney and serves as an administrative judge with the state’s Medicaid office. He has worked in this position for the past eighteen years, and very much enjoys his job as he gets to work with people and serve the public. He is friendly with his coworkers as they have all worked there for many years. His office is in a perfection location as it is 30 minutes away from Boston-area home and it’s also only 45 minutes away from our Cape Cod beach cottage.
Lisa works every Friday as a part-time nanny for 3 young children. Lisa developed “Fun Friday”, which consists of coloring, painting, watching cartoons, playing outside (when it’s not too cold), and reading books. “Fun Friday” is also ‘pizza for lunch’ day so we have pizza very week. We also take lots of silly pictures together!
Five “fun facts” about us
- We watch Jeopardy every night and play each other competitively
- We love to shovel snow and refuse to buy a snow-blower
- We love to stay home on New Year’s Eve and watch the Twilight Zone marathon
- We often go out for big Sunday breakfasts and then spend the next hour walking it off
- In the winter of 2006, we took a spontaneous road trip from Massachusetts, and drove to Williamsburg, Virginia, Savannah, Georgia, and Hilton Head/Charleston, South Carolina and then drove back.

About Lisa from Stan
When I first met Lisa, I was struck by her pretty smile, and luminescent eyes. After knowing her for a while, it was readily apparent that she was a beautiful person inside, too. I am often in awe of her compassion, kindness, and sensitivity. She is also very intelligent, is a great cook and is very funny! Despite all of these gifts, she is never one to boast or brag about anything. I find that her humble nature makes her all the more attractive.
Lisa is very loving and generous with me, our family and friends. She would do anything for me and for anyone. She is so good to her mother to whom she is especially close. She just adores her four little nieces and they just love her! I truly feel that she has a special ability to closely bond with small children. She babysits for three siblings every Friday and in between visits, they ask her parents about her and when she is coming back.
One thing that Lisa loves is laughter, and she’ll share this with anyone that’s around her. We laugh together just about every single day. Whether it’s about things in the news, funny people, or impressions and funny noises, she and I are sure to be laughing together.
Lisa has told me that ever since she was a little girl playing with dolls, all she ever wanted to be was a Mom. I know she would make an excellent Mom and she would shower her child with love and devotion.

About Stan from Lisa
When I first met Stan I was immediately taken with his gentleness, kindness, and intelligence. I’ve known him for 8 years now and since I’ve known him, he has never raised his voice or ever gotten angry. He is so hospitable and generous, and will do anything for our family and friends. He knows how close I am to my Mom and he always suggests that she come and visit and spend as many nights as she likes.
He has such a gentleness about him that draws others to him, especially children, who feel comfortable and secure in his presence. Our four nieces just adore him, and the kids I babysit really have taken a liking to him also. I’ll never forget one time when our niece Alison was just a baby, she was crying non-stop and no one could calm her down, and then Stan just started rubbing her back and she calmed down almost immediately. No one could believe it!
Stan is a “go with the flow kind of guy” and is always up for anything. He’s just as happy going to the mall shopping with me and my Mom, as he is relaxing in front of the fire watching TV or reading the newspaper. He even likes housework and going grocery shopping with me. He loves his work as an administrative judge for the Medicaid office as he enjoys serving the public and helping people. He’s very responsible, but he can also be very funny and silly, and has a humorous outlook on life. We laugh often and I feel so blessed that I met and married such a wonderful man.
