Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Shad and Kim
We are Shad and Kim. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and getting to know us. We can only imagine what you are going through, and we admire your strength and courage in making this decision. Your adoption plan represents the most profound act of love imaginable. Our choice for creating a family and becoming parents is through adoption, and we hope you will sincerely consider us to be the parents of your child.

About Us
We met in Colorado Springs, while both of us were in the Air Force. A mutual friend set us up on a blind date in 2004, and from there we hit it off. We were married in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 2006 and continue to enjoy a happy marriage.
We enjoy our time together outside of work. One of our favorite activities during the winter is skiing. What we love most about skiing is the freedom away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoying nature’s beauty. We would love to teach your child the great joy and excitement of skiing.
Besides going down the hills, we enjoy hiking trails in the summertime. If we are not out skiing or hiking, then we are probably searching for a festival or farmers market. We both enjoy cooking and these places provide us with fresh and new foods which we incorporate into new dishes at home. On holidays the main dish is usually Shad’s deep fried turkey, which is an all time favorite. When we are relaxing at home, we enjoy board games or an active game on our Wii.

Meet Kim
By Shad
Kim is a patient, sincere, and a very loving and caring person. She is a registered nurse and enjoys taking care of her patients, young or old. She is excited to become a mother! Kim is the youngest of three siblings. She has two older brothers, Ben and Jon. Her grandparents, parents and brothers reside in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Kim earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Bloomsburg University in 2002. In 2003, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. After four years as an officer and nurse, Kim decided to rejoin the civilian workforce in order to allow a more flexible schedule for her family. During her free time, Kim loves to talk and visit with friends and family, reading a good mystery book, or watching her favorite shows. We love to spend together relaxing and watching movies at home. Kim enjoys cooking and trying new and exciting recipes. Often she will make her dishes for work functions or just bring me a surprise lunch.
Kim loves children and children love “Auntie Kimmy”. Seeing her with family and friends’ children, I know that she will be a wonderful mother.

Meet Shad
By Kim
Shad is a gentleman and is kind hearted. He is intelligent, hard working, and loving. Shad is very excited to become a dad. Shad was born in Korea and adopted in 1977 at the age of three. He grew up in Minnesota. Shad has one sister Bethany who also is adopted and recently moved to Prague, Czech. His mom still lives in Minnesota. Shad’s father passed away a few years ago. Shad graduated from the United States Air Force Academy as a Second Lieutenant and is an officer in the United States Air Force. Shad is very hard working during the day. After his day is through he enjoys his free time at home. One of Shad’s favorite things to do during his free time is work on his computer doing graphic arts or playing word games. During our nights home Shad and I can often be found cuddled up on the couch and watching our favorite TV shows. Shad loves to grill and bake. He makes his own marinades to put on steaks and ribs. He also makes brownies and cakes. He always makes a cake for my birthday and special occasions. He is very thoughtful.
Shad loves kids. When Shad is around, children gravitate to “Uncle Shadow”. His eyes light up when he is around kids. I know he will make a wonderful dad.
Our Loved Ones
Both of our families are excited to welcome a new baby into their lives. This baby will be the first grandchild and great-grandchild on both sides of our family. Although our families do not live close to us, we stay connected through the internet and frequent phone calls. We frequently visit our families throughout the year. Kim’s parents and grandparents reside in Pennsylvania. Shad’s mother and sister reside in Minnesota. We both have family members throughout the world. Whenever we have time to travel we visit with our relatives and friends.
Depending on where we are, we enjoy skiing, the outdoors, staying in and having a game night, or just sitting around and catching up on lost time. Many of our friends have children, with whom we enjoy spending time, and giving “mom and dad” a night out and practicing for when we have one of our own. Our families and friends are very excited and supportive of our decision to adopt.
Our Home and Community
We currently live in a small town in Germany, which has a small zoo, soccer fields, and many parks for children. There is a playground right next to us, which is a popular place for the entire neighborhood. We have some American neighbors, but most of them are German, which gives us a chance to learn the German language and culture. We enjoy the German food also, especially during the local festivals held throughout the year.
Did you know?
We really enjoy living overseas while Shad is stationed here in Germany. We will be here another couple of years then it’s back to the States. There are a lot of great benefits to being overseas and in the military, including:
Easy opportunity to travel to numerous countries all over Europe
Shad’s job allows us to go anywhere around the world
Shad will be able to retire early with full benefits - he will love being able to spend time with our family!
Family loves to come visit and we love to show them around
Opportunity to see and experience other cultures

Closing Thoughts
We appreciate the time you have spent getting to know us. We hope that you will consider us as adoptive parents for your child. If you choose us, know that your child will always have a lifetime of stability and our unconditional love.
From our hearts,
Kim & Shad
