Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Paul and Brenda

Hello! We are Paul and Brenda, and we would like to thank you for taking the time to learn more about us as a couple and as individuals. Thank you for choosing adoption, as we strongly believe that each child has much to give in the world. We respect you and your courageous decision.

We are a happy and loving couple, and we can so offer much to a child. We both come from big families, and we would like to grow our family—to share our love, home and good fortune. We have a strong relationship based on love, faith and respect. Because we got married a little later in life, we did not settle for just anyone; we found our ideal mate. We took our time in getting to know each other which is so important in building a strong and lasting foundation.

We met online in 2006, and after two blissful years, we married in 2008. When we first met we were struck by how much we had in common, including where we grew up! Our love for God and the Catholic faith was another commonality. Our Byzantine Catholic Church is small and intimate, and there are many children in our parish (several of whom were adopted).

About us… We both come from very humble backgrounds, where our parents worked very hard to make ends meet. Yet, we were blessed to have attended private schools because an excellent education was a very high priority for both our parents. We continued our education and went on to graduate from two excellent universities. Brenda received her B.A. in History, and Paul earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science; later he received his MBA from a top university. Both of us were the first in our families to graduate from college, and we both worked while attending school. We are fortunate that we have the means to send our child to Catholic school and to college because education is very important to us as it was to our parents.

We have a strong passion for traveling and knowing other countries and cultures. We discovered this right away from our online dating profiles and on our first few dates as we shared countless stories of our adventures in foreign lands. We have both lived abroad, and we can speak other languages. Paul has lived and worked in Germany and speaks German. Brenda lived in S. Korea, Hungary and Chile, teaching English to college students and business people; she speaks Spanish and Italian. Together we have traveled to Italy, Colombia, Brazil and parts of the U.S. Traveling is a priority in our lives, and we plan to continue the adventures around the world with our child. Traveling opens the mind and fills the soul with amazing and unforgettable memories, and we would not be the same people we are today if we hadn’t had these experiences.

Family! Friends! Celebrate good times! People say you should marry your best friend, the person with whom you can laugh. Well, we always have a good time no matter what because we have great senses of humor which are very similar. Whatever we do and wherever we go, we always try to carpe diem (seize the day). Life is short and anything you do can be an adventure if you have the right attitude! We had a big adventure a few years ago when we auditioned for the Amazing Race. Although we weren’t selected, it was so much fun!

When the weather is nice, we often go to the beach, which is only 2 blocks from our house. We often go swimming or boogie boarding or just catch some rays. Sometimes we ride our bikes to other beaches nearby. We also love snuggling up and watching a film or reading a good book, and we definitely love to cook and eat well.

From time to time we like to go dancing and we have taken salsa and ballroom dance lessons in the past. Walking hand in hand on the beach is something else we enjoy, especially in the evenings after dinner.

Family and friends are a big part of our lives. We have the good fortune of having most of our brothers and sisters nearby, so there is always a birthday party, BBQ or just get together to watch a football game. We have many nieces and nephews, so there are always many kids around. Family life is important to us, and we are both so blessed to have such good people and role models for our child.

Paul is my best friend soul mate. He makes me laugh, and he has the most amazing smile that lights up a room. My friends often say, “You are so lucky that you found Paul; he is the best.” He IS the best, and I am truly blessed. He is so intelligent, funny, handsome, romantic, clever and fun to be around. Paul is very loyal, thoughtful and kind to people and animals. He was once given two kittens on the verge of dying, and he nursed them back to health. He kept the cats, which are so gentle, and they love Paul very much.

Paul is always up for an adventure, and he goes with the flow when traveling or when he is in a situation that isn’t going as planned. He rarely gets upset, as he is calm and even tempered. He enjoys discussing politics, religion and current events, and he knows a lot from being an avid reader. However, Paul’s biggest passion is college football, and his team is USC. My family loves Notre Dame, so when the two schools play each other, it is quite a rivalry! He would like to bring our child to some games or watch them on TV with our families.

Paul is a math and science wiz, which is good for me since those are not my strong points. He knows how to repair anything and everything in the house, and with his engineering background he can make something from anything. He is a genius with gadgets, cars, bicycles, etc, and he probably learned how to do so many things from his father and older brothers. Paul is the youngest of seven children, and his parents were still married until they died many years ago. He remains close to his siblings, all of whom (except one) live within an hour’s drive. They are wonderful and caring people, and we enjoy being around them and their children.

I am so fortunate that Paul and I met and that he is my husband. He is everything a man should be: kind, loyal, honest, good provider, loving, faithful, etc. He is also a good brother, husband, friend, and someday father. A child would be so blessed to have a dad like Paul!

Brenda is a unique combination which I have never seen in another woman. She’s like the sunflowers in our front yard, standing tall, beautiful, always cheerful and optimistic, facing the sun. Everyone loves Brenda. They can’t help it. My family knew immediately after they met her that she was the one for me. I see how she cares for those in need and it melts my heart. When I see how she is with her nephews and nieces, I know she’ll make an excellent mother. She is the love of my life and I am so thankful to be her husband.

A lot of people talk but Brenda is all about action and making things happen and that makes me proud and grateful to know her. Well, she likes to talk, too, but that doesn’t stop her from getting things done and that makes me smile as I write this. If you want something done fast and done well, call Brenda. You’d better be sure you really want it because it will be done before you can change your mind.

She has a great sense of style and has made a beautiful home for us. I like that she loves languages and travel and takes every opportunity to learn about different people and cultures. She is an avid reader and well educated not only with a college degree but with a wealth of experience from her travels. We’ve both lived in foreign countries and traveled extensively and I think that gives us a shared unique perspective and appreciation which you can’t get from just vacation travel.

She has a healthy dose of determination and focus which helps her excel in whatever she attempts, being competitive without losing the cheerfulness, humor, and effervescence I so love in her. It’s a huge bonus that she has a wonderful tight-knit and loving family which I enjoy being around. She is strong in her faith and values, and has a great sense of humor which gives us a strong foundation for our marriage and for a family.

A peaceful life near the ocean… We are blessed to live in a small beachside village 2 blocks from the ocean. Our neighborhood is wonderful, and there are many children on our street. Our city is very safe and life in our neighborhood has the feel of a small town. Our street has hardly any traffic on it, and it is filled with children riding their bikes or just playing in the fresh air. In addition to the beach, there are many parks in our city. Additionally, the schools in our city are among the best in the state!

Our home is a beachside cottage, and it is bright and cozy, perfect for raising a family. We have renovated our backyard and front yard, which is on a hill, but fenced in, making it perfectly safe and fun for playing. We spend hours in our backyard, whether we are grilling out or talking next to the relaxing fountain. We share our home with our two loving cats, Rejik and Samiska, who have been with Paul for many years.

We have also remodeled much of the inside of our home, including the kitchen. Paul has done most of the work himself (it is wonderful that he is an engineer and so knowledgeable and skilled!), and it really is beautiful. Brenda loves to decorate with lovely antiques, which have so much character. While it is undoubtedly a nice house; more importantly it is a home. Friends and family always comment on how cozy our home is and that they never want to leave. We have very few projects left, and we are most excited to make a nursery out of one of our spare rooms; that will surely be a lot of fun!

About our professional lives…Both of us have had several careers and have worked in different fields since college. Paul started out in aerospace, working as a design engineer. After obtaining his MBA, he switched careers to the management side. Of technology which took him around the world. He was President of a company, built it up and then successfully sold it. Now he is President and CEO of another technology company and he hopes to make this one even more successful than the last! The company is only about 15 miles away, making the commute easy. Because Paul is the boss, he has flexibility in his job, whether it is working from home or leaving work early. He hopes to have his own company one day, and he has several patents with more in the works.

After graduating from the university, Brenda worked in many fields like education (teacher’s assistant); marketing for non-profit organizations; office manager; English Teacher in foreign countries, etc. She has been working the last 6 years for a publisher selling language textbooks to college and university professors, and she likes her work. She is very successful, and she has won several awards. Because she has a home office, her job is extremely flexible.

A few more words…We appreciate your time in getting to know us better, and we would like to thank you for considering us. We are very honest, sincere and down to earth people, and hopefully we are the couple you have been searching for. We hope you have a good feel for who we are and what kind of parents we would make, and we are open to answering any questions you might have.

Sincerely,
Brenda and Paul
