Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Michelle and Aaron Smith
Dear Birthmother,
We are Michelle and Aaron and we would like to offer our sincerest thank you to you for reading about our family and considering us as a family for your baby. We understand what it feels like to have the deepest profound love for your child and know that your decision comes from that love.
We have been married for five years and have a beautiful three year-old son, Samuel. We have always wanted a larger family and know from our personal experiences that adoption is the right decision for us. We cannot begin to know what you are going through, but we promise to surround your child with love and help them to know you love them as much as we do. We still have a lot to learn and experience in this world together and we would be so very fortunate to share those moments with your child. We are so grateful to you for considering us as a family for your baby.
Our family
We believe in being a family that is welcoming and accepting of all people. It is very important to us that we raise our children to understand this and to help them gain the confidence to do whatever they want and be whoever they want to be.
Spending time with our family is the most important thing we do. Some of our favorite activities together are…
- Going on picnics in the mountains
- Reading together every night before bed
- Going to a Rockies game

What we do together
Spending time together also means….
- Growing and cooking fresh vegetables from our garden
- Hiking and camping
- Snowshoeing and sledding
- Traveling anywhere from a weekend in the mountains to a vacation on the beach
We love spending time with each other and we are so excited to learn what new adventures another little one will bring to us!
Aaron and Michelle’s thoughts on each other
Aaron’s thoughts on Michelle
Michelle was the one I knew I would love forever from the first time we talked. It was one of those weird things that happen in life and I was lucky it happened to me.
What I love most about Michelle are…
- She is gentle and caring with everyone she meets
- She is thoughtful, compassionate, and devoted
- She is curious, creative and has a flair for making something out of nothing
- She knows how to have fun and keep everything simple
- Her honesty and integrity
- Watching her help Sam to learn

Michelle’s thoughts on Aaron
When I met Aaron nine years ago, I knew without a doubt it was him with whom I wanted to share my life. Aaron has an absolute curiosity about people and their lives. When we met, he counted among his closest friends a 94 year-old man, with whom he would play checkers and spend hours just listening to his stories.
What I love most about Aaron are…
- He values different perspectives
- His endless support, honesty, and loyalty
- His acceptance of all of me
- His favorite times are spent with his family
- His incredible patience
Our children
We never understood absolute joy until our son Samuel was born. Samuel is now three, all boy and ready to explore the world.
Some of Sam’s favorite things are…
- Sports of any kind
- Animals and watching rodeos
- Reading
- Fishing, hiking, sledding and going to the park
- Playing with all his cousins
Sam is so very excited to get a new little sister or brother and to teach her or him how to fish and play baseball.

Our home and neighborhood
We live in an older suburb of Denver--full of old trees, parks, and trails. We love being 10 minutes away from downtown Denver with its many restaurants, museums, events, and Sam’s favorite, the Rockies baseball stadium!
Our house has three bedrooms upstairs, one of which is waiting for a baby to call it home. We have a newly finished basement that has a large space just for toys and playing. We also have a very large yard, in which we spend most of our time during the summer hanging out together.
Our hobbies
Michelle - reading, cooking, sewing, running, and spending time with friends
Aaron – fishing, reading, listening to and learning about all kinds of music.
Our traditions
Some of our favorite traditions are…
- Going to the mountains and searching for the perfect Christmas tree
- Going to the National Western Stock Show
- Planting our garden on Mother’s Day
- Roasting marshmallows over the fire pit in our backyard
- Friday night pizza and movies
Our families
Our greatest gifts in life are our family and friends. Our families are as anxious as we are to welcome a new child into our lives. We are fortunate enough to have every member of our immediate families living in Colorado. Being there for each other is very important to everyone and we spend lots of time together for birthdays, holidays, weekends in the mountains and trips to the zoo.
Michelle’s family includes both parents (Grandma and Papa Lynn), two sisters, two brother-in-laws, and seven cousins! Our family already shares the remarkable experience of welcoming adopted children. Our niece, Katie came to us from Korea and our nephew Andrew forever changed our lives when he arrived from China.
Aaron’s family includes both parents (Grammy and Papa Paul), one sister, one brother-in-law, and one brand-new baby cousin Brooke!

Growing up
Both of us grew up and still live in Colorado. Michelle is from a smaller rural community and Denver is home for Aaron. These two very different experiences have allowed us to learn and value different perspective and different ways of life.
Michelle- I have two sisters, one older and one younger. Having those relationships as a child and as an adult, makes me realize the importance of having siblings. Some of my favorite memories of childhood are…
- Playing Barbies with my sisters
- Family vacations (always road trips)
- Playing outside during long summer evenings
Aaron – I have one sister. She and I were extremely close growing up together in Denver. Having my sister always by my side made us almost inseparable as we did so much together. We were always encouraged by our parents to us to explore whatever we were interested in such as…
- Sports and different hobbies
- Going to the library
- Playing in our backyard
What we do for work
Michelle- I am a 6th grade teacher in a large suburban middle school. This is my sixth year of teaching, though I taught high school for the first four years. I love my job and being around young teenagers every day. As a mom, teaching is a great career. It allows me to have long extended time to spend with my children during Christmas break, spring break, and all summer.
Aaron – I am the executive director of a small nonprofit organization that runs support programs for children with cancer and their families. I really enjoy the work I do, especially because of the incredible families and volunteers I meet. I hope the inspiration I draw for them helps me make our family stronger and closer.
Our final thoughts
We would like to thank you so much for taking the time to learn about and to consider us as the family for your child. Family is the most important thing in our world and your child will be enfolded into our family completely and unconditionally. We promise to provide your baby an abundance of love, guidance, and commitment. Our best wishes to you as you make your journey to your decision.
