Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Mary and Tim

Dear Birth Mother:
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter and getting to know us a little better. This decision you are facing will be part of all of our lives forever. Choosing adoptive parents for your child is a very hard and complex decision and making this decision shows your strength as a person and the love you have for your child.

Being parents tog ether has been our dream since the day we met and we have been on a journey for years to have a child. We cannot wait for a child to come into our lives to complete our family.

We are so thankful you are making this selfless decision and we hope to be chosen by you to care for and love your child.

A Loving Family:
We met almost 16 years ago when Tim was a senior in college and Mary was a freshman. We locked eyes one day in a cafeteria and we stared at each other for a whole month before Tim had the nerve to ask Mary out. It was an instant connection and we were inseparable. We married a few years later, after Mary graduated from college, and we’ve now been married over 11 years. Our relationship grows each year and we look forward to a long life of friendship, marriage, and parenting.

We both have very flexible jobs that will allow us to have lots of time to spend with your child to see them grow. Both of us are already changing aspects of our lives, home and jobs, so that the center of our lives will be the new addition to our family. We can offer your child a home that is never lacking in love, laughter, hugs, kisses, and attention.

Both of us are avid readers and have already started a library where your child can read and start to learn at an early age. Education is very important for us and we will ensure education is a priority for your child. But more importantly we believe a happy and fun childhood is what a person needs.

We are also a very active couple and would look forward to transferring this to your child as well. We like to spend time exercising through going to the gym, walking the dog, or hiking in nearby trails. We envision your little girl being involved in many sports, such as ballet, golf, softball or wherever her interests take her.

We have very diverse families and we have experience on both sides of our families with adoption. Our families are supportive and excited about our journey to build our family.
Tim’s parents can’t wait to be grandparents again. During the last year his sister had a baby, his brother adopted, and his wife is currently pregnant.

Mary’s family is also ecstatic about the new addition. Mary’s sisters have been buying baby clothes and children’s books and Mary’s nieces told her they are already planning a surprise for the baby. Both our families are looking forward to the new addition.

Our Home, Neighborhood, and Bookstore:
We live on an island that is about 15 minutes from a major metropolitan city. Our home is a 3 bedroom house that is steps to the water (a large bay). We have a large deck where we relax and barbeque frequently. Our house looks out into a marina and we love to watch the sailboats coming and leaving as well as harbor seals playing and pelicans diving.

Our home is a short walk to retail stores, coffee shops, and restaurants. We are also close to a large sand beach with a park that has a children’s play area, a children’s learning center, picnic areas, tennis courts, a windsurfing/kite surfing school, and a dog park.

Our neighborhood is very family friendly and diverse. The schools in our town are rated excellent and we live right next to the elementary school while the middle school and high school are just down the street.

The center of our neighborhood is our bookstore that we own and Tim manages. We opened it 5 years ago and have books for all ages and interests. Since opening the bookstore we have been able to get to know our neighbors and form some great friendships. Many of the very colorful locals have already been stopping in to ask when the new addition to the neighborhood will arrive. We live on the same property as the bookstore so it is an easy commute for Tim each day!

About Tim:
Being married to Mary has been the biggest and most important part of my life. After all these years we still go on dates as if we just met. I never imagined I’d be married to someone who I truly consider my best friend. There is nothing I love more then to spend time with her, whether it’s just hanging out around the house or picking out something to do for the day or evening.

I grew up in a very normal childhood in the suburbs in an easy going family. My parents have been happily married for 45 years and I have a younger brother and older sister who are starting families of their own. We were very fortunate to have a household full of laughter growing up. If you didn’t have a good sense of humor then you had a difficult time.

Sports were the main centerpiece throughout my childhood, whether it was playing or watching. As the seasons changed in the Midwest so did the sports we played. I can’t wait to pass on the fun of sports to your child as well.

The bookstore is a big part of our lives. Fortunately we live right behind the store so we are able to stay close even when I’m working. Our store has been doing well and allows us a flexible schedule. When I see the many kids coming through our store running and playing in our kid’s section I know your child will have fun doing the same.

Reading is a big interest of mine. I was fortunate over the last number of years to get a scholarship for a Masters of Theology while in the Midwest and then to pursue a Masters of Divinity when we moved to the West Coast. Much, though not all, of my reading is involved with those subjects.

I also love the outdoors and spend time hiking, sailing and simply hanging out. Mary enjoys doing the same with me.

About Mary:
I love being married to Tim. He makes me laugh all of the time and is always finding new ways to make me smile. I love it when I get home from work and I find small gifts that he buys for me, such as flowers or, my favorite, farmer’s market kettle corn! It is amazing that I was able to find my soul mate so early in life and that we continue to have so much fun together.

Tim possesses the following traits that will make him en excellent father; sense of humor, thoughtfulness, caring, loyalty, and loving nature.

I grew up in the Midwest with 5 brothers and 5 sisters so my home was always full of noise and activity. I am an aunt to 25 nieces and nephews and 5 great nieces and great nephews (and it keeps growing)! Although we do not live close to my family I still stay in constant contact – there is rarely a day that goes by without an email or phone call from someone.

Since my family is so large and spread out we have a reunion every other year so that we can all spend a few days to connect and have fun. The reunions are so much fun and the children love the Children’s Olympics where there are games for each age as well as medals and gifts for each child.

A few years ago, in anticipation for a family, I changed jobs so I have no travel and lots of flexibility. I am an internet manager for a large health insurance company. My commute each day is short and I take that time to read the latest books that come into the bookstore, or to call one of my sisters.

My passions are reading, sailing, gardening, and cooking. I am never without a book in my purse and love that the bookstore is now my library. When sailing I love to enjoy the scenery and the wildlife. It is also fun to make recipes for dinner that use vegetables
and herbs from my garden.

About Norton:
Norton is our dog that is a mixture of many breeds, mostly border collie! We rescued her from the animal shelter 13 years ago and she has been the center of our family and our entertainment ever since. She loves to cook with us, go on hikes, go on walks, go to the beach, and just play outside. Although she is getting older she still runs around like a puppy, but she does get tired easier!

Norton loves children and is very patient with them. She was raised with Mary’s nieces and nephews as well as children from a homeless shelter (where we worked on weekends for 2 years). One of Mary’s nieces used to use Norton to pull herself up to a standing position when she was learning to walk!

We think the real reason Norton loves children is because they love to give her food and lots of petting. And if a child won’t give her food she’s very likely to gently take what she wants anyway!
