Hello, we are Marci and Kristopher.
We have great respect for your decision to pursue an adoption plan. We are very excited that we may be able to realize our dream of becoming parents, and this may be possible because of a courageous person like you.
We have always wanted to build a family of our own. Our original life plan was to adopt a child as well as to have a biological child. After we realized that we could not have biological children, we moved forward with our original plan to build our family through adoption.
We have much to give and would provide for a child an atmosphere of love, laughter, activity, support, discovery, and good times. We would expose a child to all sorts of things, including nature, science, sports, art, music, and culture. We would be encouraging and supportive of any path in life a child wished to follow. We value education, and if a child wanted to pursue education in any area, we would provide the support to make that possible. In our home, a child would always feel loved and showered with affection. We would provide opportunities for a child to interact with other children from diverse backgrounds, as we see this as an important part of learning about our world. We would strive to give a child many kinds of experiences while growing up.
We are open, non-judgmental people and would instill these qualities in a child. Other qualities we find important, and that we would teach a child, are a sense of responsibility, that hard work pays off, and that a considerate and compassionate outlook on life will get you places.
About us
Marci grew up in Texas, and Kristopher grew up in northern California. We met when Marci was in graduate school and Kristopher was doing scientific research at a university in Flagstaff, Arizona. We have been together ever since, for the past seven years. Kristopher proposed to Marci on a kayak on the equator in the middle the Pacific Ocean, while on a trip in the Galapagos Islands. We had not yet made plans on where to get married, so we decided to get married the next day on the boat. For the past four years, we have lived in southern California. We love the area for its natural beauty and cultural diversity.
About Kristopher by Marci
Passionate, good sense of humor, intelligent, caring, and loyal best describe Kristopher. I long ago lost track of how many times I have heard that Kristopher would be a great father. He is so smart and loves to share his knowledge with children. They are drawn to him because of his passion about animals and nature, although I am sure his humor and silliness helps too.
About Marci by Kristopher
Marci is honest, loyal, dependable, smart, and humble. She loves to laugh, is very empathetic, and is the best I could ever hope for as a partner and the mother of my children. I have heard many times from all kinds of people that, ‘Marci has a calming effect on me’. This applies equally to adults and children. If everyone tried to be just a bit more like her, the world would be better for it.
What we do for fun
We love to explore Nature. We like going on walks and hikes to see wildflowers, go bird-watching, observe geology, and search for animals. We enjoy camping and spending time in national parks exploring, observing wildlife, and seeing and learning new things. We have fond memories of traveling as children to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, the beaches of California and the Gulf of Mexico, Big Bend National Park, and to ski in various mountains of the American West. There is so much to see in the world, even right here in California, and we would love to share new experiences with a child.
We love to travel. We strive to see what the rest of the world looks like and how people around the world live. We feel that this adds to perspective on life, who we are, how fortunate we are, and what our role should be in the world. These are adventures and learning experiences that we very much want to share with a child.
We enjoy spending time with friends and family. Kristopher’s mom is a great cook, and he has been working for years to pick up her skills, as well as developing some of his own.
Our family
We are both fortunate in having supportive, loving, and fun families. Both of our families are very excited about our decision to adopt. Marci has a large family with three older sisters and has enjoyed being a part of her eight nieces’ and nephews’ lives for the past 25 years. Spending time with Marci’s family is anything but quiet. When all 18 of them get together in Florida, they play games, kayak, swim, eat, and watch football.
Kristopher’s family lives in northern California. He and his mother are very close, and we love it when she comes for long visits. Kristopher’s sister has three kids, two girls and a boy, and he loves to spend time with them. Kristopher’s family has been coming to our house in southern California the past few years for Thanksgiving, and it looks like we now have a tradition.
Our home
We live in a great neighborhood surrounded by wonderful people. When we moved into our house about 3 years ago, we were pleasantly surprised as to what close-knit community we had just joined. We commonly have get-togethers to eat and visit, and there are always kids there having a good time. Having lived in many different neighborhoods in various cities, we both know how rare such an especially friendly and safe neighborhood can be, and the schools are among the best in the country. We love animals (which is probably pretty obvious by now). We have two dogs, a tortoise, lots of fish, a lizard, and a frog. We enjoy having a home with a lot of animals and plants.
Our work
We are both professors of biology. Marci teaches part time at two community colleges. This gives her a lot of flexibility with her teaching schedule, which would be a great help in raising a child. Kristopher works at a university in southern California, where he teaches classes and runs a research lab. He very much enjoys working with students in his lab and in the classroom. Sometimes his work brings him into beautiful natural areas, and Kristopher has talked about how much fun it would be to have a child who could join him on these trips. Education is important to us, although we realize that education can come in many forms. We love to learn as well as to share our knowledge.
