Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Julie

Hello!

I am so happy you chose to read my letter. I admire the courage it takes to consider an adoption plan. I hope this letter and these pictures will give you some idea of the loving and secure home I can provide for your baby and you can begin to see how much love, support and desire I have to become a mother. I have great respect for the path you have decided to take, and I hope you realize that you are making someone else’s dream come true and it is truly a wonderful thing.

About Me
My name is Julie and I have had a great life so far, but I have known for a while now that something is missing and that is being a mom. I have wanted to be a mother since I was very young and although I have yet to find Mr. Right, I still believe I have time to find him (he is hiding somewhere!), but I can’t picture my life without a child. I have so much love to give to a child and this has guided me to the decision to start a family by adoption.

I am funny, caring and generous and would do anything for a friend. I love children. I am drawn to children and feel as if I have a great way of connecting with them. Many people have commented on how well I interact with their children, from their 6 month old to their teenagers. I grew up with younger siblings, and I babysat for anyone who would ask, from 6th grade to high school and loved it. I am an experienced Aunt to both my family and friends!

I love to read, travel, spend time with friends and family, laugh, and yes, watch really bad reality TV--everything from The Hills to The Housewives of New York City. Ok, the truth is out, but I hope you won’t hold that against me! We all need to have at least one guilty pleasure in life!

I also enjoy exercising, although enjoy might not be the right word, but exercise is a big part of my life in order to stay healthy and enjoy great food. I love going to movies, museums and plays, and checking out the newest restaurant with friends.

I love to travel to new places or to just visit family and friends and have taken some wonderful trips throughout the US, Europe and the islands over the years. I look forward to traveling with my daughter or son whether it is to Disneyworld, the Grand Canyon or Cape Cod—it will be a wonderful experience to share new activities and different cultures and customs as a family and through the eyes of my child.

Growing up and Family
I am very fortunate to have come from a large, closely-knit family. My parents have been happily married for 47 years and are basically retired and split their time living in New Jersey, Florida and upstate New York. So, I have a nice variety of places to visit! I am very close to my parents, thoroughly enjoy their company, and they provide a great deal of support to me in many ways. I am very lucky to have such a supportive and loving family, and they have helped shaped me to become the person I am today.

I see my parents often, either getting together for a holiday with my extended family or visiting each other at their home or mine. I speak to my Mom every day and to my Dad a few times a week. He often just calls to “check in.” My parents are very involved in their children’s lives. They love being grandparents and help out in any way they can by babysitting their grandkids and offering great advice and often financial support. My family really loves to be together and although most of us live in different states and sometimes have lived in different countries, we almost always have the entire family together during the Hanukah /Christmas holidays.

I am also lucky to have a close relationship with my Grandma Ida, my father’s mother, who is 96 years old and still living on her own (with some help) in New York. I look forward to our weekly calls and am extremely close to her and see her when I can. While growing up, I had loving grandparents involved in my life whom we saw frequently, and they often took care of us when my parents went away. They were an important part of our lives.

I have a large, immediate family---2 sisters, a brother and I am an Aunt to 9 wonderful nieces and nephews. I am also close to my Aunts and Uncles and have 5 first cousins and many second and third cousins.

I have an older sister who is a child psychologist and lives in upstate New York. She has adopted two girls, my beautiful nieces, and we are very close and she provides a great deal of guidance, support and love to me in many ways. I also have a younger sister (a journalist) and brother (he works for a private equity firm) who are twins. My sister is married to a wonderful guy and they live in New Jersey and they have 3 adorable boys. I was recently lucky enough to baby-sit for my sister’s youngest son for the weekend, and I was able to spend some quality time with my adorable nephew and get some good practice with the fun routine of an 18-month old. My sister and I are very close, and she is also a great source for advice and support.

My brother, his wife and four children just moved back to the Boston area from Tokyo, Japan and I now get to see my nephews and nieces on a regular basis. Now that they’re back in Boston, it is great to have a local support system.

I grew up in a very loving home and I remember family dinners, help with homework from my parents, and of course fighting with my siblings, but always felt happy to have a big family. I was lucky enough to live in very nice suburban neighborhoods and the different communities I grew up in were very family oriented; we knew everyone on the block and rode bikes and played with the kids in the neighborhood. We had very close neighbors that became like family, and we still keep in touch with many of them. My family took great vacations together and I have many fond memories of my childhood.

Friends
I have a large group of friends in the area and around the country from many parts of my life; many married with children and some single. Some friends I have known since kindergarten. I am very conscientious about maintaining my friendships and am great at keeping in touch and organizing dinners and visits. Along with my brother’s family, my friends are a great support system to me. They have always been there to listen to my problems, provide advice, celebrate good times or even help me move or brainstorm on major life decisions.

They are all excited about my plans to adopt and I know they will be there to answer the late night question, visit, run to the store for me or help in any way they can.

My Home and Community
I live on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts in a lovely suburb that has much to offer in terms of a top-notch school district, parks, community events and friends and a brother nearby. I can see the elementary school from my window and the kids playing on the soccer field. I am a quick drive to Boston--a wonderful city with museums, history and culture. I have lived in this area for over 20 years and love all that it has to offer.

I recently spent the day at the Children’s Museum and the Aquarium with my 3 nephews and I became excited to picture my child and me at these places spending time seeing them discover, play and just having loads of fun.

I moved about a year ago from a smaller place to a lovely, brand new, large 2 bedroom condominium. It has a ton of sun light and plenty of amenities and personal touches to make it a special home. The location is just perfect--I can take walks outside and also walk to some stores and shops, but am also close to the city and other suburbs that have much to offer. My building is diversely mixed and it has young families and older couples and I have two sets of wonderful neighbors whom I have become friendly with right on my floor.

Career
I have an undergraduate degree and an MBA. Education was very important in my family growing up and I will support and guide my child to value education and plan to be there to help with homework and involve him or her in a variety of different educational opportunities, including art, music and sports.

I have mostly worked for large, stable companies for many years in the investment management industry and about 3 years ago I started working as a Knowledge Manager/Research Associate at a global executive search and management consulting firm. It is a challenging job that I enjoy. As I’ve moved through my career, I have been lucky enough to have earned good salaries and have saved money. I own my own home, am financially stable, and have the means and support to raise a child by myself.

My career has been important to me, but I believe being a Mom will be the most important job I have ever have and it will be my priority.
