Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Jen and Mike

We are so very excited that you are considering us as parents for your child. We know it is an incredibly important decision and want you to know that we are honored to be considered. We have so much love to offer a child.

We have a great life together and an incredibly supportive group of friends and family who can’t wait for us to become parents! We are a loving couple who are committed to raising your child to be someone you can be proud of. We have so much love to offer a child, and can’t wait to become parents through the miracle of adoption!

How our Romance Began
We started out as neighbors. In the late ‘90s, we both lived in Chicago… and our apartments were across the hall from each other! We quickly became friends, going to movies, jogging together and often just hanging out, talking. Soon, we were dating. Six months later, Mike was transferred to Atlanta to begin a sales training program. We entered into a long distance relationship, frequently flying between Illinois and Georgia for months. After Mike completed his program, we decided to move together to Phoenix, and were married a few years afterward.

And Now, our Lives Together
Years later, we are more in love than ever. We can’t get enough of each other—talking about our days, sharing jokes and neverending laughter and dreaming about the family we have been hoping to build for so long. We are each other’s best friend, and we want nothing more than to introduce another little person into our loving home.

Jen works as a business consultant and Mike is a Commercial Real Estate Broker. We enjoy our jobs, but it is really the moments we spend together and with family that we treasure most. We have two golden retrievers, Barkley and Roxie. On Saturday mornings, we love to load up the dogs and take a road trip to somewhere in Arizona we have not been. We also enjoy traveling to other countries.

Our marriage is the most important thing in our lives—along with our family and friends and our relationships with God. We are committed to living a life that makes a difference in the lives of others.

Meet Jen, by Mike
My wife Jen is an amazing person. Everyone who meets her instantly loves her. What I love most about Jen is how giving and caring she is. She is always looking for ways to give back and to make a difference for others who are less fortunate. She has a way of making others feel better about themselves. She is an inspiring person with a ton of energy and enthusiasm for life. I would be honored to parent by her side.

Jen has always been athletic—she enjoys running, taking long walks with our dogs, swimming and scuba diving. She likes the outdoors and enjoys camping and fishing. She enjoys watching sports as well. On a more feminine note, she enjoys reading and sewing too. She was in 4-H as a child and learned to knit and cross stitch.

Meet Mike, by Jen
After more than 11 years together, when I think of Mike, I still get a big smile on my face. What I love most about Mike is how patient and loving he is. Mike will be the dad who will put a Dora band-aid on his knee so that our child knows it’s going to be ok. I really respect how steadfast and committed Mike is to everything he does. He sees things through and never gives up.

Mike is a great artist—he draws and paints. He is also gifted musically. He enjoys singing and playing the guitar. He likes to hike and bike. Mike also enjoys restoring motorcycles. He restored his grandfather’s 1963 Honda motorcycle. Mike has a great voice and sings in the shower regularly!

Loved Ones, Our Family
Jen’s Family: Jen’s parents live in Iowa. Although they live in a small town, they have traveled to over 29 countries. She has two older brothers. Her oldest brother, his wife and three sons live in North Carolina. Her middle brother and wife just returned from Africa where they were in the Peace Corps for two years. They get together every Christmas in Phoenix. When they were kids, they played lots of cards and board games, and carry on that tradition every time they get together. Jen’s nephew just called her to tell her he has been practicing Monopoly so he can beat her this year.

Mike’s Family: All of Mike’s parents—Paul (Dad), Molly (step-mom), Diane (Mom), and Evan (step-dad) live in Michigan. Diane and Evan are now “Snowbirds,” spending summers in Michigan, and winters in Florida. Mike’s parents all live in the same town, and have the same friends. They regularly socialize with each other, and have similar interests. We make it a point to travel to Michigan in the summer time to enjoy the 4th of July festivities, and regularly visit Mike’s family. Mike’s sister Stephanie, has three children, all of whom live in Atlanta. They too travel to Michigan in the summer to visit and celebrate the summer festivities. Uncle Mike loves playing “chauffer” for his nieces and nephew Mike’s stepdad Evan was adopted. He is an amazing man. His adoptive parents are incredible people and Evan feels blessed to have had the life they gave him.

Where we Live
Our home is located in one of the best school districts in Arizona. We bought our home in 2005 in a very nice area of Phoenix. We remodeled the house from top to bottom, which was quite a project as we did much of the work ourselves. Our home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms—there’s plenty of room for our family to grow!
Our neighborhood is full of kids of all ages. We are good friends with many of our neighbors who all have small children; 12 children under the age of 6 to be exact. On the weekends we socialize with them. There are tons of activities for children in our community—from soccer league to baseball and competitive swimming. There is a park within a few blocks of our house with lakes and trails

Our Dreams of Parenting
We dream of holding our child and rocking him or her to sleep at night. We think about taking our child hiking in a Baby Bjorn and having huge birthday parties with all of our friends. We think about being on the PTA of our child’s school and guiding their future. We think about teaching our child how to swim. We think about teaching our child to love and to share with other children. We can’t wait to attend their activities, whether it be a piano or dance recital or soccer games. We dream about taking our child to the ocean and getting sand between his or her toes.
We believe in empowering children to discover who they are. This fosters confidence and is critical. We intend to provide the structures to make it possible for them to thrive at whatever they choose to do. We both believe in children being active and involved to develop social skills. We see taking on a charitable project as a family in order to teach our children the importance of giving to others making a difference.

We both grew up in the Midwest and have developed strong moral values as a result of our upbringing. Our grandparents were raised on farms. It was such a treat to be exposed to this as a child and we would love to create these memories with our children. We intend to teach our children the importance of family and of education as well.

Jen and Mike
