Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Elaine and Thomas
Dear birthmother,
Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We are very excited to introduce ourselves to you and give you a glimpse of what your child’s life would be like with us.
We are Elaine and Thomas, and we come to you excited and scared, hopeful and eager to start the adventure of parenting. We can’t imagine the choices you have to make right now, the overwhelming information you are getting and the pressure you might feel.
We truly admire the incredible courage, love and selflessness you are demonstrating in creating an adoption plan for your child.
We are honored you might consider us for the amazing privilege of raising your child and realize this probably is the hardest and most important decision you will ever make. That’s likely even harder because right now we are strangers. A name, some photos … but strangers nonetheless. So we’d like to take this opportunity to give you an idea of the life we live and the type of life your child would live should you select us to raise your baby.
We want you to know that our home is warm and happy and will always be a place of love and encouragement just as we encourage each other in all of our dreams. We can provide your child with lots of hugs, fun times and a good spiritual and moral foundation to help him or her grow to be a happy, self-confident adult. And as we are both German, your child we be raised traveling internationally and will get the best of both cultures.
Love at first sight…
We met in May 2005 through very close friends in Germany. They tried really hard to get us together, as both of us have had a very busy life, it took them a while. But finally one night in May, Elaine just finished her workout at the gym, she received a call and was told to meet a friend for a drink at a bar. No time to get styled and with no make up she entered the bar and was introduced to Thomas. We talked the whole night and had just eyes for each other. It was love at first sight.
As we both have just started to play golf we decided to have our first date on the golf course to play together – it was raining but we have had a lot of fun and laughed and at the end off the day we knew that we would be together for the rest of our lives. Sometimes fate intervenes when the time is right and after spending years building our careers and becoming financially secure, we were both ready to find the right one.
Since then our love and relationship is growing every day. We have been inseparable ever since. We have created a life based on friendship, communication, honesty, respect, humor and most importantly, unconditional love. We are each other’s best friend and our lives are more fulfilling, lovable and enjoyable when we are together. As a team we are invincible that is why we have accomplished so much together in the last few years – bought an apartment in Germany, travelled to places like Thailand, Singapore, Paris, Caribbean, Mexico, Italy, Hawaii and decided to go on assignment to the US.
As our love is really special we have had two wonderful weddings in 2007 – one in Las Vegas (Elvis Wedding) and one at a very romantic place in California with our families and friends.
Now we can’t wait for a child to join us in all of our next life adventures.
Elaine talks about Thomas…
You know when someone just “gets” you? That’s how I felt about Thomas when I first met him and then I quickly learned how lucky I am to have him in my life. He is smart, has a great sense of humor, compassionate, caring, giving and a warm wonderful person. He always realizes my ideas and dreams – how crazy they may be and will be doing the same for our child.
When playing with children he is always on hands and knees, just playing right alongside them. He is the same with our friend’s dogs always rolling around with them and just enjoying the moment. He is still a child at heart and will be a wonderful father.
He’s funny with a quick wit and is always making me laugh. He is very handy, able to fix or build just about anything, he loves cars and technical challenges.
Most importantly, Thomas has the most genuine good heart. It shows by the real close friends he has. Everyone loves him because of his easy going nature and his deep care for each and every one of them.
He is going to be the most amazing and loving father while providing structure and encouragement which I am sure will be mixed with lots of silly fun and adventure.
Thomas talks about Elaine…
I was instantly drawn to Elaine’s wonderful heart, quick wit, and her infectious laugh. Basically, I was instantly drawn to her. As we dated I learned more and more about Elaine and her incredible passion for life and how she puts 100% of herself into everything she does.
Elaine always comes up with new ideas if it’s about decorating our house, new places to travel, things to do over the weekend or just finding out about a fancy restaurant.
She makes our life fun….It doesn’t matter if we are going out to dinner or a movie or watching TV or entertaining friends at home. I can see her creating wonderful play dates and birthday parties for our child (which of course will include her famous German cakes).
She is very self-sacrificing with time and energy. Children of all ages brighten up when Elaine enters a room and the warmth that surrounds her spreads over everybody.
Elaine truly is my best friend and every day I am grateful I get to share my life with her.
Elaine cares so much for people around her and enjoys sharing her passions for life and helping others become successful in their own lives. She is always helping others find work, love and even find themselves. I am constantly amazed at how much Elaine gives of herself to others.
She inspires me to be at my very best in everything I do. Just by watching her move through our daily life together I can see what a wonderful and caring mother she will be.
What we do…
Elaine
Before graduating, Elaine spent one year as an exchange student at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana, which was one of the best years of her life. She made a lot of friends and one of those friendships has been renewed when we came back on assignment to the US.
After graduating Elaine started working in marketing and advertising in small, local companies and eventually moved to a big international information technology firm where she was traveling a lot within Europe. Her company wanted her here in California, and we were glad to accept. Elaine is now responsible for world wide marketing campaigns and events including virtual events, which is very exciting, and rewarding.
Elaine works from home, which will allow her to work and also spend the maximum amount of time with our child. Her current position also does not require the extensive travel she had to do before.
As Elaine’s parents encouraged her to take part in exchange programs when she was in school, and because of this she not only speaks German, but is also fluent in English and French. Elaine has many friends all over the world.
Thomas
Thomas has always been into building and fixing things, so Mechanical Engineering was the perfect major for him in college. He was also always into cars and during his studies he had the opportunity to get in touch with a well known German car company for a project he was working on.
A dream came true for him after graduation because he got a job in the research and development department for the same car company.
He had the great opportunity to travel for text drives for his job, to spend time in different countries for work. and He spent time in the USA, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, but the United States was his favorite.
In 2007 he got the chance to go on an assignment in the US (Los Angeles) to establish a new research and development department as a senior manager engineering. This was a great challenge, but Thomas likes challenges and responsibility. For him there must be always something going forward; he doesn’t like standstills.
His US assignment will end next year, and we are considering our options for staying here or moving back to Germany. Whatever the future brings, we will be sure to spend a good deal of time traveling back and forth - and to many other places too as we have friends all over the world!
In our free time…
As much as we love to relax, we love to entertain and have many friends over for birthday parties, the holidays or just for nice dinners. Elaine is an excellent cook, she learned it from her mother & grandmother. She is also famous for her home and table decoration. Thomas is the master of the BBQ, and loves to grill just about anything (even the Thanksgiving Turkey!).
We love the great area in which we live, and we love spending time at the beach, going for a walk, cycling with our beach cruisers, playing golf or just hanging out with each other.
In the wintertime we like to go skiing. Thomas is an excellent skier, when he was young he aided in instructing young children in downhill skiing. Elaine started to ski when she was 4 years old but she is taking it easy and skis only when the weather conditions are perfect.
Elaine always finds unique city attractions for us to see like Food Fairs, Hollywood Bowl Concerts, Universal Studios, new shows and new restaurants. She’s always looking for something fun and new to do.
On quiet nights we just like to watch movies at home – Thomas likes more action or thrillers and Elaine more romantic, dramas (chick flicks) but we both love comedies.
One of our top interests has been travelling. We have been to Thailand, Singapore, Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, Bora Bora and of course seen most of Europe. We love new experiences and other cultures. We also have travelled in the States and do a lot of weekend short trips along the West Coast.
Our Family and friends…
We both grew up watching the love, respect and kindness our parents show to each other and we treat each other with the same love, respect and kindness. We think alike, we don’t argue, we don’t scream, we discuss, and we always agree on whatever challenge is before us.
Our families are very loving and supportive. Even though they are far away we speak with them every week and we are very close to them. We use Skype to communicate with Thomas’ parents and have phone calls with Elaine’s parents every week. Both families have visited us for a few weeks here in California. We took Elaine’s parents to Hawaii when they came this year for a visit to celebrate together their 50th anniversary. Thomas’ parents have been married for 47 years and we are also planning to do something special for them. Elaine’s sister and her husband were here over Thanksgiving. When we are in Germany for a visit there is at least one day where we all come together.
Everyone in both of our families is excited about our plans to adopt. They are very warm and loving, and would welcome a child into their open arms.
Friends are very important to us and we have very good longtime friends in Germany, which we miss, but we stay in very close contact through telephone and emails and a few of them have visited us in California. Due to Elaine’s passion for people and social engagement we found many friends here. Most of our friends have children, and we enjoy spending time with them.
About our two happy homes in the US and in Germany…
We live in a wonderful community and neighborhood in the greater Los Angeles area, with a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean, and lovely sunsets all year long. We are surrounded by the best schools from elementary to high school. The neighborhood is a mixture of families with children as well as older people. Everyone takes care of each other.
Our home represents who we are as a couple: warm, loving, welcoming and modern. Elaine likes to decorate so it always looks different. When our family and friends come over for visits or dinner they are always comfortable and feel at home.
Elaine is working for a voluntary organization in South Bay and through them we have met a lot of great people and we also found great friends.
Disneyland, Lego Land, ski resorts, are all a few hours drive away, and of course the beach is within walking distance. Some of our local friends have kids or are having children so we know play date trips will be happening often.
Our home in Germany is also located in a very nice community and great neighborhood in Stuttgart (southern Germany). Stuttgart was voted this year as the best city to live in Germany. France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy are just 2-3 hours away by car.
The home is warm, welcoming and very cozy. And both of our parents live close by. One of the best international schools is located in the area.
Each year we spend several weeks in Germany and will continue to do should we stay in the US.
As a couple, we promise…
We promise to raise your child in a safe, secure and healthy home with unconditional love, lots of encouragement, and support. We promise to be honest and help your child understand the special way we became a family and why you made the unselfish choice to give him or her a great life with us. We promise to give your child a solid education and encourage him or her to explore all unique talents, whether they’re sports, art, dance, fashion, science, writing and anything he or she is passionate about. Most of all, we promise to be good and attentive parents so your child is happy and healthy and feels loved every day of his or her life.
Thank you for your courage, trust and for considering us as potential parents for your child.
Most sincerely,
Elaine & Thomas
