Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Charlie and Kathy
Hello! Words cannot fully express how much we look forward to starting a family. While this letter provides just a glimpse, we hope you find reassurance in learning more about who we are, how we live, and how we will be as parents. We both come from families blessed by adoption and deeply respect you for choosing this path. Although we each have our own story and journey that brought us here, we share the same wish for your child to have a wonderful life full of love and opportunity.
If we become your child’s adoptive parents, please know they will be welcomed and embraced not only by us, but also by our very supportive family and friends who can’t wait for their arrival. We will love them unconditionally, provide a stable home full of warmth and laughter, show them the world, support them through life's experiences, and encourage they follow their dreams! We are truly honored and humbled by your consideration... thank you!
About Us
You could say that we met in the middle. Kathy grew up in northern California, Charlie grew up in Alaska, and we met in Washington at college. We quickly became inseparable and a couple years later, Charlie proposed on Valentine’s Day after cooking us a romantic dinner (he’s a great cook!). We were married the following summer at a beautiful Victorian Bed & Breakfast surrounded by our closest friends and family. After being together for over thirteen years, we’re still very much in love, best friends, and a strong team in all we do.
We have a wonderful life together and the only thing that could make us happier is to have children. After years of trying to let things happen naturally we learned that favor wasn't on our side. We always talked about adopting long before deciding we were ready to start a family and now we know that this is the path meant for us. Whether or not a child is born to us is irrelevant and we will love them will all our hearts!
Kathy will stop working to stay home with the baby and Charlie has generous time off with flexible hours. We’ve both been very successful in our careers allowing Kathy to now shift her focus 100% to family. We look forward to dinners together in the evenings, movie nights, going to the park, camping, little league, baking cookies, going to the ocean, and playing games. Even today, a family visit isn’t complete without a round of dice or cards and Charlie has a never-ending supply of stories to tell from growing up in Alaska about fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, dirt-biking and dodging the occasional bear.

Kathy in Charlie’s eyes: “Kathy's beautiful smile and caring touch have brightened my every day since we first met in college. Whether we are at home or out and about, everything just seems better when she is there. Kathy is my best friend and I am thankful for her everlasting love and support. She has an ability to make everyone feel comfortable and appreciated. Kathy will be a great mom and I can’t wait for us to start our journey of being parents together!”
Charlie in Kathy’s eyes: “Charlie’s kind smile, cute dimples and big blue eyes definitely drew me in, but it was his warm personality, big heart and love of life that hooked me forever. He is my best friend and I love him more each day. Charlie cherishes his family more than anything in the world and even after all these years of being together, he still opens the door for me every time. I’m so thankful to be able to share my life with him and I know he’ll be an amazing dad!”

Family Circle
Most of our family lives nearby in Washington allowing us to get together regularly. We have a long list of close family and friends, some who have adopted children as well. We are very tight knit and consider all of our friends to be extended family and would give them the shirt off our backs if they needed it. Our relationships are built on the foundation of trust and kindness and we are truly blessed with such a wonderful support network.
Kathy has an older brother and sister who were both adopted as infants. Kathy surprised everyone nine years later after her parents were told this wouldn't be possible. Between her siblings, we have five nieces and nephews ranging from 10 to 17 who are all growing up to be such incredible individuals. We have an honor student, diva, performer, skate/snow-boarder, and a football pro in the making!
Charlie has one younger sister who just introduced a beautiful baby boy to the world in September 2010 with her husband. Spending time with a new baby has been so amazing. He is the most precious little bundle and we all seem to hover at the edge of our seats waiting to see what he’s going to do next! While spending time with them really hits home that our life is going to change dramatically, it really reassures us that we are so ready for a baby (the nursery is even done)!
We also have two adorable dogs, Shadow (Shih-Tzu) and Thor (Rat Terrier), who are super lovable and entertaining. Shadow has lived up to her name by always being at your feet and wanting to be cuddled. If you’ve had a bad day, getting a “Shadow hug” is the perfect remedy. She’s also earned the new nickname “Nana” for checking on the baby every time he makes a sound. Thor is better known for drive-bys… basically you put your hand out, he runs under it, and you can claim you pet him! He has a constant fascination with chasing a ball, Frisbee or laser pointer – better known to him as DOT. However, when he tires of playing he can usually be found curled up with Shadow in a “dog pile” on one of our laps or stretched out in front of the fireplace. They’re always so happy to see us when we get home whether we’ve been gone 5 minutes or 5 hours… you just can’t help smiling!

Everyday Life
Live Well, Love Much, Laugh Often! We have a great time with pretty much everything we do whether hanging out at home, going out with friends, working in the yard, traveling (we love Maui!), packing up the car for a weekend getaway, checking out the local farmers market, or simply running errands. A typical weekend starts with a cup of coffee and we figure out from there what sounds good for the day.
Most often we can be found BBQing in the backyard or playing with the dogs. We have fun playing games, tending to our veggie garden, or soaking up a good book. Cooking is also a shared passion and we love to experiment with new recipes. Nothing beats the smell of banana bread baking in the oven or a slow-cooking brisket… and who can resist taco night with homemade salsa? Of course, our ultimate favorites are recipes passed down from relatives that are mostly in their heads with a “pinch of this” and a “pinch of that”.
We live in our dream home that’s perfect for starting a family with lots of space, a big yard, many young families in the neighborhood, and by great schools. Kids are regularly found playing outside, riding their bikes, throwing a ball, or drawing chalk designs in the street while the adults hang out and chat. We even have a very convenient new playground just behind our house.
Our town hosts lots of gatherings like 4th of July celebrations, firehouse pancake breakfasts, and Christmas tree lightings. Or you can also head to ski slopes nearby. We have a small town country feel and there’s a beautiful river and beach just down the hill from our home. We love having the best of both worlds by living in a friendly & safe community that's only minutes from Seattle and all the local attractions like the theater, Pike Place Market, Experience Music Project, Science Center, Woodland Park Zoo, Aquarium, and more.
Our Hope
As parents and a family, we will provide your child with a warm and happy home filled with endless love where…
- They will have all opportunities to pursue their dreams
- We will teach them good morals & values
- They will receive a quality education
- We will have family dinners together each night
- We will show them the world
- They will be surrounded by family & friends
- We will teach them kindness, respect, and manners
- They will know that nobody’s perfect and we learn from our mistakes
- We will encourage they can do anything they put their mind to
- We will play and have fun together
- We will be their biggest fans
- We will tuck them in each night with a kiss & I love you!
- They will be the greatest love and most special miracle of our lives!
Closing this letter is almost as hard as starting it was... it's impossible to find the right words to express our excitement of becoming parents and our admiration for you. We would love more than anything in the world to become your child's adoptive parents, but we also know that there are so many incredible families in the same situation as us... anyone you choose will be wonderful! We want you to know that we wish the best for you and your child no matter what your decision may be. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share our story and we hope to talk with you soon!
Much love,
Charlie & Kathy
