Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Dear Birth Mother,
Thank you for taking the time to consider us as adoptive parents for your child. We understand this is a difficult decision to make and we admire your courage. We hope this letter will allow you to learn about our lives and give you comfort knowing that should you choose adoption; your child will be raised in a loving home.We met 23 years ago as college seniors and immediately had a connection. We shared a love for music, skiing and travel but most of all we just enjoyed spending our free time together. After college, we lived 5 hours apart but continued our long distance relationship, visiting each other as often as we could manage. After a year, we knew it was time to be closer for our relationship to grow.

We married in 1993 and have enjoyed a beautiful life together. We have been fortunate enough to vacation in many amazing places like ski trips to Utah, Colorado, and British Columbia. Remarkable cities like New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston as well as Hawaii, Jamaica, Ireland, and our favorite trip to New Zealand.
We purchased our home in 1999 and have been making numerous improvements along the way. Our home is a cape cod style with a brick walkway and cobble paved driveway, nicely landscaped with many ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, and perennials. The backyard has a screened porch, patio area, and a nice lawn for children to play.
We live in a quiet, safe, and culturally diverse neighborhood. We have wonderful neighbors for dinner parties, cookouts, as well as an annual block party in August which is usually attended by over 15 families. The neighborhood also has an elementary school as well as a park with a walking track, basketball and tennis courts, playground area, and a field for soccer games or throwing frisbee or flying a kite. The beautiful Rhode Island beaches are only 30 minutes drive, Cape Cod and Boston are 1 hour, and the northern New England Mountains are about 3 hours away.

We are both extremely excited for the opportunity to become parents. We have been on an emotional roller coaster the last few years with unsuccessful pregnancies as well as failed fertility treatments. We feel that a biological connection is not necessary to love a child and know that adoption is our best option for the family we have yearned for. We are ready to welcome a child into our lives, and provide a safe, loving, nurturing home.
We are kind, thoughtful, caring people. We both connect really well with children. We enjoy great relationships with our nieces as well as our friend’s children. They love to play games, laugh or just cuddle and read stories with Carrie. With David, they enjoy the adventure of hide and seek or learning to throw a frisbee, football, baseball, basketball or play catch. We have both also enjoyed teaching them to ski. We look forward to teaching kindness, respect, and compassion for others and encourage our child to have confidence and be proud of who they are and what they do.
David works as nursery manager for a premiere family owned garden center. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, hiking and skiing. He has a huge appreciation for music; mostly rock, reggae, blues, and folk. His parents are retired school teachers that live nearby. They love to garden and spend time with the family. He also has a brother in Washington, DC, another brother in Massachusetts and a sister in Chicago. Everyone is eager to welcome a new member to the family.

Carrie grew up in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Her father worked for General Electric, that’s why they made the moves. Her mother was a stay at home mom and they were able to travel with him throughout his career. Carrie moved to Rhode Island after high school. Her parents currently live in Maine and often come to visit. One of Carrie’s best friends, Dan and Anne recently adopted a little boy who has become a very important part of our lives. Her love for him has made her all the more eager to be a mom and have a child to love and care for. She enjoys reading, baking, biking, snowshoeing, and skiing. She is compassionate and nurturing and enjoys spending time with our nieces and friend’s children.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. Should you choose adoption, we promise to be a positive influence and provide a loving home for your child. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering us as a possible family for your child.
