Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Bill and Michele

Dear Birthmother

Thank you for reading our letter and considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We respect and admire your incredible strength and courage in making an adoption plan for your baby. It takes a very loving and selfless person to choose this path. We can’t imagine how difficult this is for you and we can only hope you find peace and comfort during your journey.

Please know we’re completely committed to providing your child with unconditional love and support, our undivided attention and patience, and a fun and nurturing place to grow-up. Michele has already left her job in anticipation of being a stay-at-home mom. We can’t wait to become parents together!

Finding Each Other
Our paths crossed when Bill attended the law school where Michele worked. Our first date turned into a marathon – eating yummy pancakes at a favorite diner, enjoying a funny movie, cozying up on the kiddie train in the park, ordering Chinese take-out for dinner, and finally watching a video of Michele and some of her family and friends jump out of an airplane (parachute included!) We couldn’t bring ourselves to end the date, and that’s how our time together has been ever since.

Skip ahead past law school for Bill, then nursing school for Michele. You will find us barefoot on a beach in Kauai, a magnificent sunset in the background, nobody else around except a judge and a photographer (family and friends celebrated with us back home.) Since that day on the beach 8 years ago, nothing has been a bigger priority than welcoming a child into our life.

We always knew it might be difficult for us, and included adoption in our plans from the beginning. We’re so excited to finally begin the process and start a family!

Meet Bill
Bill is an attorney for a very family-friendly law firm. Kids often visit at lunchtime – something he’s really looking forward to. Bill’s passion is reading. He collects first editions and often reads 2-3 books at a time. He also loves to go hiking, have BBQ’s with friends and family, and do home improvement projects.

Bill, by Michele
Bill surprised me when I first met him. He was goofy and sweet and very friendly – something I didn’t expect from a serious law student. I soon learned what a kind and generous person he was, and I see these qualities in him every day. I’ve watched him climb a tall tree to rescue an elderly neighbor’s cat, give his beloved old car to his parents when they were in need, and go to great lengths to be there for his family and friends.

Bill absolutely adores children and can’t wait to sing his silly songs and dance around the house with a child. He sings (if you can call it that!) to me and the kitty now, so we can’t wait either.

4 Things To Know About Bill

  1. Education is very important to him. He struggled and sacrificed to put himself through school and he is the first person in his family to earn a college education and advanced degree.
  2. He’s a softy. He cries at weddings, always tells his mom he loves her, and became instant friends with Michele’s goddaughter when he let her make-up his face.
  3. He is all about doing the right thing. He was brought-up with strong family values like honesty, hard work, respect, and integrity.
  4. Happy-go-lucky is his middle name. He’s easy-going, fun loving, adventurous, and spontaneous.

Meet Michele
Before becoming a stay-at-home mom in training, Michele worked as a registered nurse. One of her most rewarding experiences was caring for infants and young children at a large hospital in San Francisco. For fun, Michele loves to kayak and hike, walk to the park with friends, and journal.

Michele, by Bill
Michele’s smile and warm personality got me right from the start. She’s always thinking of others and has such a good heart. I think that’s why she makes a great nurse. She takes wonderful care of our niece and nephew when they visit, and makes sure we all have a ton of fun. I’ve always admired her desire to help those in need, like the time she went to Nayarit, Mexico with a group of nurses to give free medical care to families in rural villages.

She’s a wonderful combination of kindness and compassion, with an out-going personality and fierce sense of humor. Michele will make a great mom!

4 Things To Know About Michele

  1. She’s a kid at heart. She loves playing games, the TV show “Glee”, and the same music as her niece and nephew.
  2. Health and wellness are high priorities. She exercises every day, eats healthy (with the occasional chocolate!), and makes time for quiet reflection.
  3. She has an adventurous spirit. Flying to the Canadian Arctic in a small plane and a bike trip 250 miles down the coast were typical family vacations growing-up.
  4. Caring for the environment is important to her. She recycles everything, protects our beaches and parks, and bought toxic-free baby furniture.

Our Loved Ones
Family and friends mean the world to us and they’re so thrilled we’re adopting. We have a large extended family - between the two of us we have four parents (married 46 and 49 years, respectively), two siblings, four nieces and nephews, and more than 100 aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most of our relatives live in California and we love to visit with them as often as possible.

Christmas is one of many opportunities for Grandma and Grandpa to spoil the kids! We also have family picnics in the summertime, and “Cousin Days” several times a year with fun outings to places like the wild animal park or a cool science museum. We’re both very close to our moms and we’re so grateful for their love and support.

Our greatest joy comes from spending time with our nieces and nephews. Michele’s niece and nephew live on the East Coast and come for extended visits a couple times a year. The days are jam-packed with indoor rock climbing, ice skating, hiking, and ping-pong matches.

Bill’s niece and nephew live about 4 hours away and we see them every chance we get. We love to play hide and go seek and skateboard around the block. Bill is usually on the floor in a ticklefest with his nephew or having tea with his niece.

Great Friends
Wonderful friends enrich our life, some new friends and some dear friends we’ve known for years. We’ve been involved with many of their children since birth, and have enjoyed lots of school plays, recitals, and birthday parties over the years. Several of our friends have recently had babies, and we’re already planning play dates and family get-togethers.

Where We Live
We live in beautiful Northern California in an area with Redwood groves and vineyards, and only an hour away from San Francisco. Our bright and comfy three bedroom home has a good size backyard with lots of room to play. Our favorite spot is the sunny deck, where we love to entertain and relax with our kitty Speedie.

Our neighborhood is family-friendly and very diverse. The library and neighborhood park are within walking distance of our home, and the award-winning elementary school is just around the corner. A green belt with walking paths surrounds the area. Good friends recently moved in two doors down with their baby, making our neighborhood walks and visits to the park so much more fun!

Our Life & Fun Times We love to be outdoors and spend most weekends hiking through the parks or strolling along the beaches. We’re fortunate to have several local and State parks just minutes away, as well as the Pacific Ocean and Russian River. We also enjoy taking weekend trips to go kayaking or walk around small towns. Two of our favorite places to visit are the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Yosemite National Park.

If we aren’t out exploring, we like to visit with friends and family or have BBQs at our home. Bill is famous for his yummy turkey-ranch-cheeseburgers!

Our town has lots of festivals and community events, as well as a weekly farmer’s market where we hang-out with friends and neighbors. We both work-out at the YMCA or at home, and Michele can’t wait to take the baby to “Mommy and Me” classes at the Y.
