Dear Birth Mother,
We thank you so much for taking the time to read our letter. Please know that we greatly admire your strength and the loving, selfless choice you are making. We thank you for considering us as adoptive parents and the wonderful gift of adoption.
We are Thom and Barbara, and we are so excited about fulfilling our dreams of building our family through adoption. We are grateful that you would consider us to welcome your baby into our lives. We hope that this letter will give you some idea of the loving and secure home filled with hugs, happiness and stability we can provide. We were blessed by the miracle of adoption two years ago, with the birth of our wonderful daughter, Marissa. We are forever grateful for Marissa’s birth families. Now, we anxiously await the birth of our second adopted child that will complete our family. We have so much love to give a little one and are so excited to share our love and lives with another child.
About Us
Love at first sight. That best describes our first meeting, as we met on a blind date over ten years ago and the rest was history. We are still very much in love and have been happily married for seven years.
Thom (written by Barbara)
Thom is a gentle spirit and a loving man. He is generous, funny, and smart. He has more integrity than anyone I have ever met, which has made him successful in his career in high tech sales. Thom’s sales position offers a flexible schedule as well as the opportunity to work from home.
He is a wonderful and thoughtful husband, who makes me laugh each and every day. We love to spend our time together doing family type activities, whether it’s playing in the park, an afternoon with friends, or just relaxing over a meal in the backyard.
Thom is also an amazing father. He lights up each time he sees Marissa and welcomes her with loving arms. He is patient and kind and shows genuine interest in Marissa’s passions whether it is her love of coloring and or a game of catch with a beach ball. Thom is eager to share his experience and participate whether it is being the softball or soccer coach or helping out with school projects. Simply, he is just eager to take an active role as a father in our children’s lives.
Among Thom’s interests are sports and cooking. He participated in all different types of sports during his childhood and wants to make sure his children have the same opportunity. Today, he enjoys running and continues to run 5ks and half marathons whenever possible. He is also very patient with me when it comes to my limited athletic abilities. Thom is also a fabulous cook. He enjoys cooking on the weekends and often makes his mother’s authentic Italian recipes or hosts incredible barbecues.
Thom, the youngest of three children, was raised on the East Coast. He has an older brother and sister, with whom he is still close today. Although he moved to the West coast thirteen years ago, Thom speaks with his family at least once a week. He is a wonderful uncle to his five nieces attends all of their milestone events including their confirmation, first communion, graduations and weddings. Thom is also a godparent to two of his nieces and his friend’s two children.

Barbara (written by Thom)
Barbara is a playful, loving, and thoughtful woman with a heart of gold. She also has a wonderful sense of humor. We always have a lot of fun and laughs together.
Barbara is an incredible mother, and she loves children. Nothing brings her more joy than spending time with our daughter Marissa, whether they are cuddled up on the rocker reading a book or playing in the park on the jungle gym. Barbara loves kids and often spends time with her three sisters’ children: six nieces and two nephews! She loves having them for slumber parties or days filled with craft projects.
Barbara left her career as a graphic designer to be a stay at home mom, and I have never seen her happier. Barbara’s days are filled with fun activities for Marissa like play dates, walks, or trips to the zoo and library. Every day Barbara and Marissa come home with smiles on their faces, and sand or bark in their shoes from the day’s events.
Barbara is extremely creative, whether she is painting a mural for a room, designing a new idea for a gift bag or creating a memory book for a family member. Her creativity is endless. Barbara studied both Graphic Design and Art History in college. She now spends her free time drawing and painting and, on occasion, will complete a freelance graphic design project in the evening.
Barbara grew up in California She is close to all of her three sisters and sees them often; even her one sister whose family lives in Arizona. Barbara enjoys staying connected so that she can watch her nieces and nephews grow up. She is always attending their events and cheering them on.

Sweet Marissa
Marissa is a sweet, gentle and fun-loving 2-year-old girl who loves singing, coloring, painting, puzzles, kids, and animals. Her favorite activities include climbing, kicking or catching a ball, and playing outside. She is adventurous and fearless, which makes our daily park visits an exciting experience. Marissa’s love for kids and animals make regular play dates and an annual membership to the zoo a “must”. She is very excited to be a big sister to a new baby and can’t wait to help mommy and daddy. Marissa has brought so much joy, laughter and happiness into our lives, we know she will provide the same for a sister or brother.
Our Extended Family
East coast
We are a bi-coastal family. Thom’s family is very close-knit living in New Jersey, about one mile outside of Manhattan. We travel there at least once or twice a year to visit and spend the whole time laughing and eating. We enjoy seeing the sites, taking in a Broadway show, a trip to the museum, or visiting Little Italy for pastries. We love traveling back east during Christmas to see the window displays, as well as the tree in Rockefeller Center. We can’t wait to share these experiences as a family with a new little one.
West Coast
Barbara was born and raised in Northern California where most of her family still lives. We are able to visit regularly and attend family parties, birthday celebrations and her nieces’ and nephews’ school events. Barbara comes from a large family, which now includes 6 nieces and 2 nephews ranging in age from 5 to 22 years old. Barbara has a lot of experience with adoption. Aside from our great experience adopting Marissa, Barbara’s youngest niece (10 years old) and nephew (5 years old) are adopted. She played a key role of support during the entire adoption process. Both of these adoptions were significant experiences that contributed to her desire to be an adoptive parent.
Our Home
We live in a beautiful 2-story home nestled in a safe, quiet hillside with rolling hills, lots of hiking trails, and roaming deer. It is located in a family-friendly neighborhood where children play outside, ride bikes, and go to the park. Our home is spacious with plenty of room to grow. Barbara has already begun her creative process to decorate the nursery. We have a nice backyard, perfect for playing catch, riding a tricycle or just making a mess. Our backyard also opens to a park where Barbara and Marissa can be found daily playing on the swing or jungle gym, while Thom and Marissa use it for kicking or catching a ball. In addition, our home is located in the best school district in the county, which makes it ideal for a child to grow up in.
We both grew up in loving homes with close families and happily married parents. Our core values stem from our great childhood and family experiences. We want to share our love for each other and our desire for a close and unified family. We will offer unconditional love, lots of laughter, financial stability and faith. We will provide a great education, a safe and loving home and will cherish the child we are blessed with each and every day. We will raise him or her to know how selfless, courageous and wonderful his or her birth mother is. We are so excited to welcome another baby into our family and to continue our life long journey as parents. We thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.
