Hi!
We are Amy and Steve and this is such an exciting letter to write since it’s our first opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We'd like for you to know how much we appreciate you considering us to be your child's parents. It is because of you that we will be able to fulfill our dream of having a family.
About Us:
We met at work over a decade ago. Starting out as friends, we soon fell head first into a loving relationship that has been truly amazing. We have a wonderful marriage full of laughter, respect, support, and affection. We share a lot of interests and hobbies and we enjoy doing them together. We love any activity that brings us outdoors, like tennis and golf. Hiking in the mountains and relaxing at the beach are two of our favorite ways to spend a weekend. We really enjoy traveling, too. Our favorite trips have been to Hawaii, Barcelona, London, and France. Coming home is always nice as well since we enjoy relaxing at home. Cooking and home improvement projects are always fun when we do them together. We realize how lucky we are to have such a solid marriage. Having a spouse who always wants the best for the other person is a great feeling. Our inability to have a child on our own has taught us more about ourselves and has strengthened our desire to be parents. It has made us fully aware that being parents is truly a gift that we will never take for granted. We will cherish every moment of it.
We both work in the high tech software industry. Steve is a software developer and he leads a team that creates clinical software for hospitals. Amy works in Sales. We’ve both been with our companies for over ten years. We really enjoy our work and it provides us with a great deal of flexibility. Our companies are both strong believers in work life/family balance and they realize that family comes first.
About Steve (by Amy):
Steve is truly the great love of my life. He is loyal, supportive, and family-oriented. He makes me want to be the best person I can be. His confidence and gentle demeanor combined with his fun-loving and goofy nature make me so excited to see him become a dad. His laid back attitude and sense of humor are probably part of the reason why kids tend to gravitate towards him at parties….and why I fell in love with him in the first place.
Steve’s passion for learning and his un-ending energy is a perfect match for a child. In the years that I’ve known him, he’s taught himself both the piano and the guitar and has become quite good at both. He loves his job which provides him the ability to tap into both his creative and technical abilities. His favorite hobby is golf which we both really enjoy playing together. Steve is looking forward to having a little “caddie” to teach the game to.
About Amy (by Steve):
Amy has so many lovable and endearing qualities. I'll mention a few to give you an idea of how much of an amazing mother I know she will be. Amy is the most caring person I've ever met and her love for family and friends is such an important part of her life. Her wonderful smile and positive attitude are constant reminders of how lucky I am to have her in my life. She has a wonderful outlook on life and her combination of strength, patience and kindness will shine as she takes on the responsibilities of parenthood.
Amy loves children and children really love her. Our nephews and nieces can't seem to spend enough time with her. Our friends’ children act as if she is part of their families. She is great at mixing something fun with an opportunity to teach good values. I know she will be the same way raising your child.
Meet the families
We are both lucky to have supportive and loving families who live close by. Steve has an older sister and a brother and Amy a younger brother and two older brothers. All of them have children so we have lots of nieces and nephews, (9 in total)! Each of them have a special place in our hearts and we have such a great time hanging out with them. We enjoy attending their many activities, (soccer, baseball, basketball games, dance recitals, birthday parties, etc), having them over for sleep-overs, and watching movies and eating pizza. It doesn’t really matter what we do, since the time we spend together is always great quality time to learn about what’s happening in each of their lives.
Holidays are a great time with our families. We especially like Halloween when we can trick-or-treat with our younger niece and nephew. Thanksgiving is usually spent visiting Amy’s parents at their winter home in Southern Florida which is a relaxing time filled with lots of eating and fun in the sun. Christmas is a busy time with both our families. We have a lot of laughs with family traditions such as our Christmas cookie baking contest. Summer is a blast with family barbeques, playing badminton and swimming in the pool.
Our families are very supportive and excited about our plans to adopt your child. We are so excited to expand our family and to welcome your child into our mix. Having your child as part of our family will bring our entire family so much happiness. Your child will always know how much she/he is loved and supported.
Our Home/Community:
We live in terrific suburb a few miles outside Boston. We were born and raised here so we know how special of a place it is to spend your childhood. Our community has an incredible school system and we can't think of a better place for a child to have so many diverse experiences. Theaters, concerts, sporting events, and museums are nearby and we intend to introduce your child to all of them. As your child grows, our hope is that your child can choose his/her own passions and dreams to become an artist, musician, athlete, or scholar...or maybe all of the above.
New England has four unique seasons and we are excited to share our favorite places and activities with your child. In the summer we spend a lot of time swimming, surfing, and relaxing at our favorite beach. (We never forget the sun-block!). Our 4th of July celebration is spectacular. The fireworks are the best in the country and we can't wait to watch your child's eyes light up the way ours had when our parents brought us. Our favorite season is the fall and we love apple picking and taking day trips to the country to see amazing fall foliage. The winter will be busy for your child since we will be sledding, snowman making and ice skating at the local ponds. Skiing is a hobby of ours and we'll be enrolling the little one in ski school at an early age. In the spring, we thaw ourselves out by spending time in Boston's public gardens. As the flowers and trees bloom, the city really comes alive and we look forward to taking your child on the swan boat rides.
On Parenthood:
We are so excited to be parents! We have so much love and energy to give to your child! Our relationships with our nieces and nephews are so special to us and we can’t wait to love your child and provide a lifetime of guidance and support. Our family experiences have taught us some great lessons on parenting. One of the most important things parents can give to a child is their time. We are strong believers in education and will make learning a priority throughout your child's life. We expect there will be some bumps in the road along the way. We give you our word that we will learn and grow from these situations and become a stronger family from them.
Our Promise to You:
- We promise to always put your child first above all else and to love unconditionally.
- We will raise your child in a nurturing and happy home filled with laughter, family and traditions.
- We will encourage your child to dream big and shoot for the moon.
- We will provide guidance and support so your child will grow up to be a strong, independent and caring person.
- To protect from the monsters under the bed or the ones hiding in the closet and everything else that comes along.
- To serve cookies and milk as needed.
Conclusion:
Thank you for your courage and strength in making such a big decision in your life. Your selfless act of love will forever be in our hearts as a reminder of how much this child is loved by all of us. We believe that adoption is the path in which we will grow our family and because of that we are so excited you have taken the time to get to know us and about the life we hope to provide for your child. Becoming parents will be the greatest moment of our lives and we will be eternally respectful and thankful to you.
